“Watch Out For Endtime Deceivers!” (Mt.24:1-14).
The temple in Jerusalem was a magnificent edifice. The disciples of Jesus were carried away by such magnificence. They “came up to him and called his attention to its buildings.” But Jesus told them, “Do you see all these things? I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another, every one will be thrown down.”
Permanence is illusory. Nothing lasts forever. The song writer captured this, stating, “Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day, Earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away. Change and decay in all around I see, O thou who changest not, abide with me.”
Yes, only the “Unchanged Changer” – the “thou who changest not” is permanent. Apart from him all our toil and seeming achievements end up in decay. Great civilisations of old are only remembered through history and archaeological finds. Human labour is about construction, deconstruction and reconstruction, ad infinitum!
In all these our souls remain restless until they find rest in the Lord. The restlessness of the soul is noticeable in man’s spiritual yearnings that borders on desperation. And when desperation is noticed, charlatans take advantage to say they are the panacea to our predicaments.
Jesus warns that we should watch out against those charlatans who will come to tell us, “I am the Christ.”
Even now we are witnesses to endtime propagators who deceive us that Jesus is around the corner. Jesus says, “All these are the beginning of birth pains.”
Painful as birth pains may be, there is great joy when delivery happens. Birth pains have a joyful ending.
Jesus informs us that endtime will come only when the “gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the world as a testimony to all nations.”
As we expect Jesus Christ at Christmas let us first of all carry the gospel to all nations; by being Christians in actions of love, kindness, righteousness, truth, sincerity and justice leading to peace.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for teaching me and inclining my heart towards that which is truly permanent. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
