“Use Your Spiritual Gift For The Common Good!”(I Cor.12:4-11).
The phrase “Jack of all trades” is seemingly a compliment. But the sentence, “Jack of all trades and master of none” waters down the compliment. A student wondered allowed why he is expected to learn and know many subjects when his teachers teach only one subject each.
Division of labour encourages efficiency and improved outputs. Paul tells us that the Spirit dispenses spiritual gifts to us in specialised form.
Members of a fellowship may have different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There may be different kinds of service, but the same Lord. “There are different knids of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.”
What is important to note is, “to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.” We miss the point when we become selfish, proud or arrogant with the gift that we have. We also miss the point when we want to claim that because we are pastors/christians, each one of us possess all gifts. There is no doubt that there will always be some multi-talented few, but such are exceptions to the rule!
Instead of complaining that pastor X is not a good preacher, rather appreciate him for the other gift that he has. Etc!
All the gifts and services “are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.”
Dear friend, identify your gift, put it to service for the common good. Individual gifts are like the pieces of a puzzle in the hands of each person, which when brought and pieced together gives the complete drawing to the joy and satisfaction of everybody. Let us use our specialised gifts of pentecostal favor for the common good and to the glory of the Triune God!
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit help me to identify my gift from you and to use it for the common good. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
