“The Lord Is Risen…!”
My people say the side of error is the side of red soil. Red soil here refers to a grave, meaning that whatever the conflict or whatever the issue was the dead person was in error; either because death justifies guilt or because the one has no possibility of defending self.
Those who were responsible for the death of Jesus probably popped champagne. Realising that he did not remain in the grave was reason enough for animosity and deep hatred against his disciples. No doubt the disciples soon faced persecution in Jerusalem and were compelled to run in many directions.
Ironically as they fled they recounted the story of Jesus and news about him spread, the gospel started taking roots in all those places.
Jesus died and was raised from the dead as a Reconciler and he gave to us the ministry of reconciliation. In him we have become new creations, with the old things having passed away (II Cor. 5:17-21).
The Chamba of Cameroon gives the name “Nyongvotla” – meaning whatever may have been the misunderstanding, it is now ended. Whoever is celebrating Easter and still nursing evil against others has not yet risen from the grave to a new life with Jesus the Christ.
Paul admonishes us, “Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast – as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb has been sacrificed. Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth” (II Cor.5:7-8).
My friend, God’s best possible world can still come true as he intended it to be if you and I bury malice and wickedness and be truthful and sincere towards others. Only in this way can we celbrate Easter as we sing, “He’s alive, amen, he’s alive, amen, Jesus is alive, for ever, he’s alive amen…”
Easter prayer: Holy Spirit indwell me so I can celebrate the Risen Lord in sincerity and truth in thought, word and deed. Amen!
Have a blessed day. Peace be with you and Happy Easter!
