“Make Your Actions Speak More Than Your Words!”
In a brief parable Jesus offers a great teaching in regards to the gap which exist between words and action. In response to the chief priests and elders who questioned his authority, Jesus tells the story of a father who had two sons. He went to the first son and said the son should go and work in the vineyard. The son said he will not, but later changed his mind and went. The father went to the second son and repeated the same. The son said “I will sir,” but did not go.”
Jesus then asked them, “Which of the two did what his father wanted?” “The first,” they answered.” It is then that Jesus explained the parable: While those who first had the word of God like the chief priests and the elders were ignoring the message of salvation which he brought, the tax collectors were hearing the message and were repenting (Mt.21:28-32).
The above leads me to an interesting and impactful two verses discussion between Jesus and John. John told Jesus, *”Master, we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.” Jesus’ reply must have shocked the disciples as it shocks some of us today in our claim to self-righteousness. Jesus replied, *”Do not stop him for whoever is not against you is for you”*(Lk.9:49-50).
*There is a wide gap between words and action. The kingdom of God is action oriented. Kingdom quest is the daily struggle for us to bridge the gap between words and action.
Philosophically it will be explained that to bridge the gap between word and action is to rule over your life and become a master of your own life for good or for bad. That is you should “stand up and start working on yourself. Do things. Real things! Do actions. Real actions! Change behaviour. Change yourself. Action is more than words.”
“The kingdom of God is for those who repent and walk in the way of righteousness. Keyword here is repentance. When the first son changed his mind, he repented and this led him to the action his father required of him.
“Repentance is not merely a change of mind but a radical change in one’s life as a whole.” This especially involves forsaking sin and returning to God through action.
So my friend, in our daily walk of faith let us not merely talk faith; rather let us live faith in genuine turning to God through action.
Prayer: Holy Spirit help me to pursue the way of righteousness in my actions in obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
