“Jesus Christ Says, ‘Come, Follow Me’…!”
When we want a good thing to do which qualifies us for eternal life we must ask from the “only One who is good.” What qualifies us to enter life is to “obey the commandments.”
However, in case we have obeyed the commandments to the fullest, there is still something we lack. That lack is perfection. Jesus says, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will find treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
When we read the above words of Jesus we can like the young man go away sad. We go away sad because we have great wealth whether tangible or intangible.
Two things we note is that there is nothing wrong with being wealthy, but have you given to the poor or you are keeping it all to yourself? The young man’s goal was eternal life, but wealth and lack of commitment were hindrances on his way.
What is it that is standing on your way of salvation? What is that weakness which you have owned as your weakness and which causes you to go away sad? God is able to turn the situation around because while it is impossible with man, “with God all things are possible”(Mt.19:16-26). “Salvation is totally the work of God. Every attempt to enter the kingdom on the basis of human achievement or merit is futile. Apart from the grace of God, no one can be saved.” Jesus Christ is the epicentre of grace! Follow him and grace will lead you into eternal life!
Prayer: Holy Spirit help me to do away with any weaknesses that keeps me away from Christ and let me trust in God’s grace for my salvation. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
