“It Is All About Jesus Christ And Not About Source Of Food!”(I Cor.8:1-6).
Christianity was introduced to Africans at the detriment of the rich African heritage and culture. Those who now read the scriptures with African eyes and try to put things in African perspectives are often considered as bringing in a new teaching.
May be it has always been this way when the gospel reaches peoples of other cultures for the first time.
One of the issues of concern in the Corinthian Church was whether Christians should eat food offered to idols or not. It was such a major concern that they when they wrote to Paul they wanted clarification on the matter.
Paul replied stating, “‘An idol is nothing at all in the world’ and that ‘There is no God but one.'” There may exist other gods – as they realy are – “yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.”
My friend, it is all about Jesus Christ the Saviour, it is not about food. Most times the things we worry and quarrel about has nothing to do with our salvation. Our concerns about such trifles as to where food comes from is puffed up knowledge which does not bring us any closer to God or bring us salvation.
It is love that builds us up and “whoever loves God is known by God.” So therefore, love God to be known by him rather than exhibiting knowledge by introducing arguments over trifles that has nothing to do with our salvation.
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit help me to concern myself improving on my love relationship with God and fellow brethren. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
