“Come, Lord Jesus!” (Rev.22:16-17&20-21).
In the last chapter of the last book of the New Testament Jesus Christ states three times, “…I am coming soon!”(vs 7,12&20). Also, the letters to the seven churches always ends with, “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says…” In the same way this last chapter reads, “The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And let him who hears say, ‘Come!’ Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.”
The repetition of “I am coming soon” prompted me to check up the word “soon” and it is simply defined as “in or after a short time.”
Expecting someone in or after a short time involves preparedness and readiness to receive the person.
Only those who are prepared and ready to receive the Lord can say with confidence,“Come, Lord Jesus!” Jesus comes with the free gift of the water of life to those who thirst for the Lord. The psalmist says, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you,O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God”(42:1-2a).
African religious beliefs hold that God moved away from the dwelling of humans because they displeased him. Since then humanity is looking for a way to reach back to him to no avail.
On the contrary, we have a God who sent humanity away from his presence, but now through his Son says repeatedly, “Behold,I am coming soon!”
As we await his coming, may the Spirit enable us to fill the little potholes of our lives in readiness for him. “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people.”
Weekend prayer: Lord Jesus Christ I am thirsty for the word. Give me the free gift of the water of life. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
