“Be Merciful…!”

“Be Merciful…!”(Lk. 6:36-42).
Since the eye sees not itself except by reflection, we hardly know that the baggage we carry attracts judgment and criticisms from others.
We often delight in judging others as projections of what is worst in us.
It is unfortunate that we often mistake rebuke and correction for being judgmental.
Courts would not be necessary if we do not have to judge others. However, be introspective as you judge others; otherwise it bouces back to you with a greater force like a boomerang!
King David failed the test of prophet Nathan. David was bitter on the man with many sheep who took the lone sheep of his neighbor and entertained his guest with. David described a murderous punishment for such a person, then the prophet told him, “You are the man!” David with many wives, killed Uriah and took Bathsheba, Uriah’s only wife(II Sam.12:1ff).
In various spheres of life we all behave like David. We are like a doctor who writes prescription doses which he himself cannot take.
God has set a standard of perfection which should be our example and goal: “Be merciful, just as the Father is merciful.”
My friend, it is as simple: “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give and it will be given to you…”
Remember: “Each time you point a finger at somebody, the other three point back at you. Do not criticise the stain on your brother’s blue shirt when your white shirt has turned brown.
Prayer of the day and week: Holy Spirit instil in us the spirit of mercy and forgiveness. Amen!
Welcome back to a new day and week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
