“Be Holy, Because I Am Holy!”
We have become used to the hackneyed phrase “Action now now!” Some may say “procrastination is a thief of time” is also a cliche. Both are relevant current biblical overtones.
Peter reminds us that to be holy is not something to be procrastinated upon. “Therefore prepare your minds for action: be self-controlled: set your hope fully on the grace to be given to you when Jesus Christ is revealed. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’…”
May be you have experienced it like myself that when you are a guest in someone’s house, no matter how cozy and homely it may surpass your own home, you still lack that freedom of doing as you please in your own house. No doubt Peter reminds us that in this life we have been called by “a Father who judges each man’s work impartially,” we should therefore live our “lives as strangers here in reverent fear.”
“Reverent fear” is the key word here. The worldwide scare that has been generated by the Corona virus is just a confirmation that we were neither redeemed by silver nor gold. No matter the value we place on them, they are perishable!
We were redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Our faith and hope are in God through him alone (I Pt.1:13-21).
My friend in times like these do not be overwhelmed and crippled with fear. Rather live in reverent fear. Strive for holiness because the Father is holy. Rest your faith and hope in God who has redeemed you through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Everything in this world is transient; including epidemic and pandemic diseases! They too shall come to pass! Be vigilant and stay safe. There is no better place like home to stay safe and practice holiness!
Weekend prayer: Lord teach me to live in reverent fear because I am a stranger here. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
