“Be A Responsible And An Accountable Tenant!”
Jesus told a parable about a man who planted a vineyard and made it ready for wine production. He rented it to farmers and went on a journey. But each time he sent a servant to collect rents, the servant was molested and some were even killed. He decided to send his son with the hope that they will be afraid. “But the tenants said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ So they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.” Jesus concluded by saying that the owner of the vineyard was left with no other choice than that “He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others”(Mk.12:1-12).
The parable exposed the planned attempt on Jesus’ life and God’s judgment on the planners. We may say, “that was then,” but there is a sense in which we are also tenants to whom God has given over his vineyard. We enjoy God’s abundant blessings in diverse ways, but when he asks for accountability we despise him. When God looks for justice what he sees is bloodshed and instead of righteousness he hears only cries of distress; very typical of our homeland for half a decade now!
Let us fear God! Let us keep God! Let us avoid bloodshed and the lamentations of our Rachels who refuse to be comforted because their male children are being destroyed either as Seperatists or regular military!
Let us be responsible and accountable tenants in the Lord’s vineyard! Let us return to the Lord!
Prayer: Holy Spirit help me to be a responsible and accountable tenant in God’s vineyard. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
