“The Good Shepherd And His Sheep!”(Jn.19:1-10).
Wearing a cross does not make you a Christian. The cross some people wear may represent the cross of one of the thieves who were crucified with Jesus. The cross predates Christianity and was used by many pagan religions in Babylon, Egypt, etc. Some modern-day cross belong to the occult.
In the same way, there are many voices calling and wanting to be heard. Without the Holy Spirit, we can easily fall prey by obeying and following the wrong voice. However, the Lord Jesus Christ says, those who belong to him listen to his voice. He calls his own by name and they follow him because they know his voice, and “they will never follow a stranger, in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognise a stranger’s voice.”
If this figure of speech is too deep for any modern day Pharisee to understand, here it is in plain words: :…Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.”
It is a good thing that the Bible is at the reach of all who want to have it. The danger of this availability is that it is easy for any charlatan to possess a copy and join the competing voices who claim to be the Messiah or his messenger!
The Lord Jesus Christ says he is the lone gate. And he says further, “Whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out and find pasture… I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.”
Our take-home message is this song by Horatius Bonar:
“I heard the voice of Jesus say, “Come unto Me and rest;
Lay down, O weary one, lay down your head upon my breast.”
I came to Jesus as I was, weary, worn, and sad;
I found in Him a resting place, and He has made me glad.
I heard the voice of Jesus say, “Behold I freely give
The living water; thirsty one, stoop down and drink, and live.”
I came to Jesus, and I drank of that life-giving stream;
My thirst was quenched, my soul revived, and now I live in Him.
I heard the voice of Jesus say, “I am this dark world’s Light;”
Look unto Me, your morn shall rise, and all your day be bright.”
I looked to Jesus, and I found in Him my star, my sun;
and in that Light of life I’ll walk til traveling days are done.”
Prayer: Holy Spirit, in my daily journey in faith enable me to always identify the Lord’s voice and follow only him. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you! Rev Babila Fochang.
