“Seek The LORD And Live!”(Am.5:4-7&10-16).
Dear friend, let us step out with, “Praise be to God, who has not rejected our prayer or withheld his love from us”(Ps.66:20).
Today, we are reflecting from Amos. Amos was a shepherd and also took care of sycamore fig trees. In his words, “But the LORD took me…and said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel ‘”(7:14-15).
Amos prophesied to the Northen kingdom at a time when Israel “was politically secure and spiritually smug.” However, as it is always the case, prosperity increased religious and moral corruption. People forgot how in the past God had punished unfaithfulness when his patience came to an end.
Amos is better known for his call for social justice as the indispensable expression of true piety. “But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream”(5:24).
The prophetic relevance of Amos’ call to repentance in the Cameroonian context cannot be gainsaid.
Three times in today’s text, the prophet says, “Seek me and live.”(v.4); “Seek the LORD and live.”(v.6); “Seek good, not evil, that you may live.”(v.14).
We do not have to go to popular relugious and spiritual centres to find God. All it takes is that where we are, we should not turn justice into bitterness. We should not cast righteousness to the ground. Do not hate the one who reproves in court or despises the person who tells the truth.
We should not trample on the poor. When you “oppress the righteous and take bribes,” When you “deprive the poor of justice in the courts,” you will not live in the mansions you have built and you will not drink the wine from the lush vineyards you have planted.
My friend, it is never too late to make a U-turn to the LORD. He says, “Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the LORD God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.”
Prayer: Holy Spirit, help us in our efforts to turn to the LORD God Almighty through the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!

Postscript: Dear friends, words are not enough to express our heartfelt gratitude for the love you showered on us through encouraging words, prayers, and gifts on my birthday. We do not take it for granted. May the LORD bless you abundantly.
