“Be Alert: The Enemy Is Disarmed But Not Destroyed!”(Col.2:13-15)
Glory be God for making us alive with Christ after he has forgiven our sins, having cancelled the charges of legal indebtedness that stood against us and condemned us. Christ became our sins nailed on the cross.
Through the cross, grace and mercy melted God’s heart so that he shouldn’t count our sins against us because the risen Christ pleads the merits of grace. Hallelujah!
It gives us great joy that the powers and authorities have been disarmed and made a public spectacle. God triumphed over them by the cross. Hallelujah!
However, a disarmed enemy who is allowed to move around freely is still a threat. That is why we are warned to be on the watch because the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for who to devour. The devil is more dangerous and angrier than before for having been disgraced and shamed publicly! His payback can be calamitous.
The devil and his cohorts have been disarmed but not destroyed – not until they will be made the footstool of Christ!
Therefore, we pray daily not to be led into temptation and to be delivered from evil. This prayer strengthens our resolve to stay clear of presumptuous sin. But where we are preyed upon by unintentional sin, the blood of Christ pleads the merits of God’s grace, mercy, and compassion for us.
Our response to the persistent call of the devil should be, “Satan, the number you are calling is not available!”
The wiles of the devil do not always come in the regular big packages that we know. Sometimes, it comes like a well-intentioned piece of advice of Peter for Jesus not to go to Jerusalem. At such attempts, our prayer is for the Holy Spirit to inspire us to say like Jesus, “Get behind me, Satan!”
Prayer: Holy Spirit, help us daily to keep the faith by remaining alive in Christ. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
