“Have Faith In The Son Of God!”
Prof. John Mbiti of blessed memory insisted that missionaries did not bring God to Africa as was erroneously assumed. Rather it was God who sent them to Africa. God was already in Africa. He sent the missionaries to enable Africans to name Christ.
Every religion has God with a capital or small letter “g.” But the difference is in the God who has revealed himself through a son who became the Christ; that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.” That is why African wisdom holds that “the child who wants to know how his father died wants to die the way his father died.”
We demonstrate that we love God by obeying his commands. Once we are born of God we become overcomers in the sense that we who are born of God by faith are enabled by the Holy Spirit to obey God. To overcome the world is to gain victory over the sinful pattern of life (I Jn.5:1-5).
Obedience to God is possible when we have been born again because the Holy Spirit dwells within us, giving us the strength to overcome sin. As such we have this victory that overcomes the world. Victory because we have in faith turned from the world and to God in Christ. And secondly we have the continuing day-by-day victory of Christian living.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit in my journey in faith help me to be an overcomer by obeying God through the Christ. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
