“The Lord Is The Defender Of The Defenseless!”
We say it as a joke that, “Cow wey e noh get tail na God di drivam fly.” Who are those tailess cows? Scriptures say the poor, the widow, the orphan, the alien – in fact, all defenseless people – are objects of God’s special concern and providential care. This can be seen in the writings of Moses, the prohets, the psalmist, the teachings of Jesus and the apostles.
The world has become a global village and our kith and kin are in almost every country of the world in search of greener pastures. Ironically, there are people of other continents within Africa. You may not believe it, but they too are in search of greener pastures. So no country should mistreat aliens.
Widows and orphans should not be taken advantage of. When the contrary happens, God hears their cries and in anger he seeks justice for them. If you take advantage of the widow or the fatherless, God can cause your own wife to be widowed and your children to become fatherless.
We are always going to have poor people with us, so when the rich lend to the poor, it should not be as a moneylender. A loan to a poor person should be interest-free.
If a person gives you his overalls or his blanket as a pledge for a loan, know that that is all he possesses. If you do not give it back by evening, then he would have nothing to cover against the cold. And God says, “When he cries out to me, I will hear, for I am compassionate”(Ex.22:21-27).
The length of your fingers are not the same. The short finger is not short because it is lazy and makes no effort to grow. And the longest of your fingers did not work any harder to become that length.
In the same way, social imbalance is not necessarily the result of hard work or sloth! Some things are just bound to be the way they are. By the way, the tides of life often change dramatically. No condition is permanent!
Bottomline my friend is that *the image of God is in the other person; notwithstanding his/her social standing. Always remember that *all defenseless people are objects of God’s special concern.*
Prayer: Holy Spirit help me to always show concern for those who are less privileged than I am. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week. Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
