No Legalism: Being A New Creation Is What Matters!(Gal.6:14-18).
Yesterday, we were reminded that what really matters is “faith expressing itself through love.”
The cross of Christ is the place where faith is found, and that cross is what we should boast about. Through the cross of Christ our Lord, the world is crucified to us, and we are crucified to the world. The cross nullifies the legalism of the “old Israel.”
Circumcision or uncircumcision does not really matter. (By the way, this circumcision thing is not a major issue to majority Africans. In the past, African circumcision was an initiation rite into adulthood. These days, it’s just a normal procedure carried out as natal care for baby boys).
What really matters for believers is becoming a new creation once they are in Christ. Those who are in Christ and have become a new creation constitute “the Israel of God.” This Israel of God is the church of Christ comprising both Jews and Gentiles worldwide. This Israel of God should not be confused with the old Israel that are killing innocent Palestinians, and now Iranians!
Those who constitute the Israel of God avoid trouble because they carry the marks of Jesus on their bodies. To them is the assurance of God’s peace and mercy and the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ with their spirits.
My friend, we are in the world. We have a responsibility as stewards to improve upon what has been placed at our disposal. We bear in mind that stewardship is about accountability since we must present a balance sheet to God the Owner. That is why as we commemorate Labour Day today, whatever your task is, work heartily as serving the LORD and not human beings.
Steer clear of legalism! Christ is all that matters! In Christ, you have become a new creation – a citizen of the Israel of God! Follow this rule, and you will have peace and mercy.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit, inspire me to prioritise the cross of Christ in my daily journey of faith. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace and mercy be with you!
