“Pursue True Worship!”
We have just celebrated International Day of peace. My Church like yours were surely at the forefront of peace sloganeering.
Unfortunately, my Church like yours may be torn apart and being fragmented with hatred, vengeance and “I will deal with you” syndrome!
Some gifted people have deliberately been dumped in some interior places where their talents and abilities are intentionally silenced. All because they excercised their fundamental humanrights to make their preferred choices! There is bitterness, anger, hatred and hurt all around us. People meet and smile with each other, while in their hearts they are planning the next strategy on how to frustrate some even more. The smiles we wear are skin-deep and our laughters cover our tears.
Indeed, it is true that if humanbeings were God some people will suffer!
The death toll keeps rising. Everyday we wake up to horrible stories of inhuman slaughters; as if some lives don’t matter. Most of the leaders who take the decision whether people should live or die are in very good standing in their various Churches.
We raise awareness for foreign FBO’s, NGO’s, humanitarian bodies, etc to give us assistances to help IDPs and refugees. We raise some of the aids ourselves, but only the leftovers trickle down to those who stand in need.
Yet, come and see us in church today Sunday how we express our joy as we sing “Eh, eh, we are together, we are one!” Hmmm, while in Church we pray and shout Holy Ghost fire as if we want our walls of Jericho to fall down anew! After service and in heavy rain, the rich drive away in their cars, not minding how their poor neighbours would get back home.
Then while they relax in the comfort of their homes they start forwarding WhatsApp messages, pictures and video clips on the beauty love, bla, bla, bla!
What hypocrisy!
Back in the days Israel as a nation thought they could placate, cajole and appease God with sacrifices, burnt offerings Sabbath observances, fasting and prayers (Is.1:10-17). The Lord told them: “I have no pleasure in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats…Stop bringing meaningless offerings! Your incense is destestable…I cannot bear your evil assemblies…They have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them. When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my face from you; even if you offer many prayers I will not listen. Your hands are full of blood; wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing wrong, learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.”
My friend, do you doubt why since 2017 we have been praying, fasting and marching, yet things seems to be getting from bad to worse? As a nation and as Churches, we need an about turn to the Lord! The African continent should reconsider what they consider as Africa now being the continent with the highest number of Christians! Let us show some love and concern.
Commitnent to the gospel is loving action. It is not about our regularity and strictness in observing Christian feast days and keeping the Sabbath; it is about the loving action we engage in whether on such days or not.
Let us learn to love more. Love is not taught to us by humans. We have been taught by God (I Thes. 4:9-12).
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit help me daily to live my faith in loving action to others. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
Babila Fochang.
