“Purified And Commissioned!”(Acts 22:12-16).
African wisdom advises to threat all the Fon’s wives with respect because you do not know who among them is the mother of the next Fon. Every saint was once a sinner. Imagine what would have been lost to Christianity if the early disciples stood firmly against Saul (Paul), the hater of Christians!
God’s ways are not our ways.
Paul was on his way to Damascus to persecute those who called on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul encountered Jesus on the way and was blinded. Jesus wondered why Paul was persecuting him? Yet Jesus told Paul that he would become his messenger to the world.
While in Damascus, the Lord sent Ananias, “a devout observer of the law and highly respected by all Jews living there.:
Ananias invoked Paul, and he received his sight. Ananias told Paul, “The God of our ancestors has chosen you to know his will and see the Righteous One and to hear words from his mouth. You will be his witness to all people of what you have seen and heard. And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized, and sins away, calling on his name.”
We do not necessarily receive Christ at baptism only. Full conversion is a process that to some begin before baptism, to some it begins at baptism and to others it comes long after.
We are finally one with Christ when full conversion has taken place, and we are fully embraced by the LORD with our accompanying burdens: our relations and disrelations.
The biblical “God of our ancestors” is the God of African ancestors. The God of our salvation is the same God of our creation.”
God chooses us, first to know his will and see his Righteous One, and hear words from his mouth. From then on, we become his witnesses to the world.
Our testimony is not just about what we have heard (from the Bible) but through our lived encounter with the risen Christ. Our baptism washes our sins away so that we call on Christ’s name.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit, let the scale of spiritual blindness fall out of our eyes so that we can discern spiritual truths. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
