“Make Sure The Light Within You Is Not Darkness!”
An old man once told me, “My son, all grasses and all leaves have either good or bad uses. A good heart will see only the good side of each grass or leaf and use it to serve humanity, while a bad heart will see the bad side of each grass or leaf and use it for destructive ends. Each time you look at any grass or leaf pray that God should show you the good side of it for humanitarian purposes.”
Where I began my psstoral ministry I had a loving and caring neighbour. We used to visit each other in the evenings and spend time together. One month on three occasions that he visited me and as I went out to bid him good night there was this eerie sound by an owl. On each occasion he asked whether I heard the cry of the owl? Each time my response was that I heard nothing. He told me the cry of an owl portends badluck; signalling death. Few weeks later his three year old son passed away. I had told him that my people say “a piece of witchcraft meat in the dish is seen only by those who belong to a witchcrat coven.”
What you see affects your whole being and has a rippling effect as it spreads to others around you.
Jesus says, “Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your whole body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness…”
As Christians we are supposedly the light of the world. It is not the mere talking about Jesus Christ to others which convinces them to become Christians. It is what we do to others and our lifestyles that convinces others to appreciate the goodnews.
A man was carrying out a research to find out the number of Christians among the residents of a certain street. He entered the home of a bachelor and asked to know if he was a Christian? The man replied, “It is not for me to answer your question. Ask my neighbours up and down the street. They know better whether I’m a Christian or not.”
The good news we have received from the Lord should radiate and impact those around us like a lighted lamp that is put on a stand. Let it be your daily walk that your whole body is full of light (Lk.11:33-36).
Prayer: Holy Spirit keep purifying me so that the light within me should not be darkness. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
