“Lord Jesus Christ Thank You For Saving Me!”
It was a sad day for us yesterday Good Friday as we laid to rest a husband and wife; two pillars of our congregation. The wife died few days after the husband. Few weeks ago we buried a gentleman and his twin brother on the same day. One died a few days after the other. Today we are going to bury two sisters. One died in the morning and the elder sister died in the afternoon. All around us people are dieing natural deaths.
Reflecting on all these I ask myself, “Why would somebody take delight in killing another as in the case of the murderers of Jesus and the murderers of today? Life at its longest is still a puff of wind! The stupidity of all murderers is that they forget that the same fate awaits them! They too will die!
Those who planned a coup against Jesus considered that he was a threat to their power and authority. Unfortunately it turned out they were mere pawns in the hands of the master.
Through death that same Jesus Christ “has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand – with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.”
If the authorities and powers are in submission to him, what then did his murderers achieve? They are now in submission to him. That notwithstanding we should thank them for facilitating our salvation. The death of Christ was intentional on his part and his Father’s. While on the cross he asked his Father to forgive his killers for they did not know what they were doing. He died for them too. “For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring us to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit…” Both us and the killers are saved through baptism as it is a pledge of a good conscience. This is to say the act of baptism is a commitment on our part in all good conscience to make sure that what baptism symbolises will become a reality in our lives. It is not as if we are saved by any ritual. We are saved by the supernatural power of the resurrection(I Pt.3:18-22). We died to sin and were buried with Christ so that we should rise to a new life through his resurrection. Hallelujah!
My friend, knowing all these things, let love be the rule of your life. Our time together in the bus is as long as just the next bus stop. So live and let others live!
Holy Saturday prayer: Lord Jesus Christ thank you for bringing me to God through your death. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
