“Lord Help Me To Be Righteous!”
(Prv.20:4-17).
In defending his innocence Job posed the question, “Who can bring what is pure from the impure?” He answered himself, “No one!” (14:4). In this concise answer Job acknowledged that purity cannot be expected of the impure, just as perfection cannot be expected of the imperfect.
It is in the same sense that Solomon asked, “Who can say, ‘I have kept my heart pure, I am clean and without sin?” Paul puts it bluntly, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus”(Rom.3:23-24).
“Freely by his grace” is not to say what is free is without cost. It is paid for and when through belief in Christ we receive forgiveness. We then come before God’s presence with “clean hands and a pure heart” (Ps.24:4).
Clean hands and a pure heart is the trait of a righteous man; and “a righteous man leads a blameless life…” Since faith is cross generational, the fruits is that his children after him are blessed. As descendants of Abraham by adoption, the fruit of blessing we are eating is the seed of righteousness which Abraham sowed.
Believers must be hardworking, plowing in season so that at harvest time they will reap the fruit of their labours. It is through our actions that it is known whether our conducts are pure and right. We should not love sleep over work. We should not proclaim unfailing love by lip service, yet lacking faithfulness.
Double standards like false weights is what the Lord detests! Whatever we gain by fraud may seemingly be enjoyable but the joy it brings can only be temporary.
Summarily, God accepts us when we seek him in earnest. He takes us as we are to make us what he wants us to become. Our daily endeavours should be to submit our egos to him for remodelling.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, make me pure that I may walk before you blameless. On my own I can do nothing, but by grace make me. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
