“Do Not Lose Heart!”
Noah spent considerable time in the construction of the ark that saved him and other creatures during the deluge. As he laboured on with the construction of the ark people were going about their normal businesses and probably derided him if at all he told them what was about to happen.
In our generation if there is a year wrought with unprecedented happenings with devastating consequences upon humanity it is this first quarter of the year 2020. The weather is still stormy indicating that the storm is not yet over.
The populations of the world are on tenterhooks to prove the limitedness of all human prowess and intelligence. It is to remind us again that “man born of woman is of a few days and full of trouble… Man’s days are determined” by God who has “decreed the number of his months and has set limits he cannot exceed…”(Job 14:1-15).
What lesson has the maiden year 2020 taught us? We should see the futility of things and how ephemeral life is. There is just one person we should rely on: Jesus Christ.
In the words of Paul, “…we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal”(II Cor.4:16-18).
We look forward to that day when Christ will see us again and we will rejoice and no-one will take away our joy(Jn.16:16-23a).
Let us therefore face the challenges of the present with the assurance that “the Lord is enthroned as King forever” giving strength to his people and blessing us with his peace(Ps.29:1-4&9c-11).
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit strengthen me not to lose heart but to fix my eyes on what is eternal. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
