“Blessed Are You…;”(Rev.14:13).
“Then I heard a voice from heaven say, Write: ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.’ “Yes,” says the Spirit, ‘they will rest from their labour, for their deeds will follow them.'”
The above verse of Scripture has been kind of overused as a Christian epitaph to the dead.
The verse is not so much about extolling the happy condition of the dead. The verse is much more about our present life now. What we do and how we do it in the now is a determinant of our future state in union with the risen Lord, Jesus Christ.
The “from now on” means God wants to start afresh with us. He knows the ugly past which Christ comes to erase. In Christ God is about to do a new thing.
The psalmist says, “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night…”
“The LORD watches over the way of the righteous,” and ensures that their deeds follow them.
Let us pursue righteousness, truth and justice for universal brotherhood. We do this with the conscious pledge: Whatever I long for to see realised as a reflection of God’s will for humanity, Let it begin with me!
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit direct my life so that whether in this life or the next I will be relaxed in the presence of my Redeemer. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
