“A Reminder About The Gospel We Preach And What You Have Believed!”(I Cor. 15:1-11).
The long list of Jesus’ post resurrection appearances is to authenticate his resurrection. We have often attached too much importance to Christmas at the expense of Easter. The church militant as the visible body of Christ begins with the resurrection.
It is common place to divert from the true content of the full gospel and preach the food gospel or whatever doctrine we have formulated to suit our theological interests.
Paul reminds us: “brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel, you are saved if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures…”
Paul then goes on to give a long list of people to whom Jesus appeared after his resurrection.
He ends up with himself: *”…he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle because I persecuted the church of God. *But by the grace of God, I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. Whether, then, it is I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.”*
Paul was far removed from the time of Jesus’ earthly life, but his testimony about the resurrection fills the whole New Testament.
Paul encountered Christ by faith. In the same way, we have encountered Christ by faith, and that is why we boldly declare the message of his death and resurrection, which is the sum total of the gospel.
My friend, hold on to the gospel of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ for by it we all are saved! Christ is not waiting for you to become perfect before he appears to you. Christ appears to us in our imperfections so that through him, God can take us and make us he wants us to become.
Prayer of the day and week: Holy Spirit, remind us daily of the gospel of the resurrection by which we are saved. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working day and week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
