“Jesus Christ, The Restorer Of Life!”(Mk.5:35-43).
Dear LORD, I step forth this day with the conviction that I will do all things that are godly through Christ who gives me strength.
Yesterday, we drew inspiration from the woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. That story was like a parenthesis within the parentheses in a sentence.
Her story started and ended within the context where Jesus was going to Jairus’ house to heal his dying daughter. Jairus, one of the synagogue leaders, “when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. He pleaded earnestly with” Jesus to come and put his “hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” With the simplicity of Jesus, “he went with him.”
This prompt response by Jesus is an important lesson for us messengers of the gospel who often insist on certain bottleneck protocols before responding to such emergency appeals!
They were still on their way when people came from Jairus’ house, telling him not to bother the teacher anymore because his daughter was dead. Jesus overheard them and told Jairus, “Don’t be afraid, just believe.” When Christ is in our boat, we can smile at any kind of storm.
As they arrived amidst the commotion of crying and wailing, Jesus told them there was no need for that because the child was “not dead but asleep.”
Jesus took Jairus and his close aides “and went in where the child was. He took her by the hand and said to her, ‘Little girl, I say to you, get up!’ Immediately, the girl stood up and began to walk around…”
Mark says the girl was twelve years old. The woman who touched Jesus’ cloak had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. It may be a coincidence, but twelve is one of numbers with scriptural significance.
Jesus “gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this…” Unlike today that for us, it could have become a publicity stunt!
Some lessons learned:

  1. In times of need, approach the throne of grace with faith and trust.
  2. Be humble at the feet of Christ as you plead earnestly for the Lord’s intervention.
  3. Let Jesus’ simplicity and promptness to the demands of people be a lesson to servants of God.
  4. Those who do not know the limitlessness of Christ will want to discourage you with words like, “Why bother the teacher anymore?” Please, don’t mind them. Jesus, who overhears all conversations, has heard them.
  5. And he tells you, “Don’t be afraid, just believe.”
  6. Important of all, God in Christ does not only restore our physical broken and ailing conditions; he also restores life. He is the resurrection and the life!
Yes, my friend, there is nothing the LORD cannot do. Even now, Christ is telling you, “Don’t be afraid, just believe.”
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, because you have said so, I am not afraid; I believe. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
