“Jesus Has Come For Me And You; Repent…!”
The moment Jesus asked Levi to follow him, Levi abandoned his work and followed Jesus. Levi was a wealthy man, albeit through dishonest means. Tax collectors even today are extortionists who have no sympathy for those who are taxed.
Levi gave Jesus a great feast in his house. Among those who shared in the feast were “a great number of tax collectors and others…”
Self-righteous scribes and Pharisees complained that Jesus’ disciples included tax collectors and sinners with whom he ate and drank. In response Jesus told them the reason for his coming: “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance”(Lk.5:27-32).
The question is, “if the scribes and those Pharisees were that righteous, what were they doing at that feast?” It is not good to expect from others what we ourselves are not.
If the righteous would not mix with sinners, who then would enable them see the light of repentance? This is not a license to sinfulness!
Before seeing other people as sinners, who or what are you? Each time you point a finger at somebody, three points back at you! Jesus advices that it is good to take off the log from one’s eye before attempting to take off the speck from a neighbour’s eye!
We are sinners who stand in need of God’s grace. Jesus is still standing at the door of each heart, knocking expecting that you open up until he engulfs your entire life!
Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for dieing for my sake so that I may benefit God’s grace. Holy Spirit enable me to be more inclined to spiritual realities. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
