“Declare The Glory Of The Lord In Song!”
Professor John S. Mbiti of blessed memory began one of his most read books with the words, “Africans are notoriously religious…” We may add that Africans are notorious singers. Everybody can sing and compositions are usually on the spur of the moment.
African religiosity and philosophy are revealed through songs and proverbs. Songs are also correctional as compositions ridicules social abnormalities.
Those who consider that the christian faith has brainwashed the Africans are mistaken. The point is that the christian faith has filled the vacuum that was in African religion.
One of the reasons why the christian faith has found a comfortable space in the African landscape is because it is a singing faith. And Africans are singing beings.
Today we are called upon to sing to the Lord and “proclaim his salvation after day. Declare his glory among the nations…The Lord is great and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens”(I Chron. 16: 23-26).
Oh yes, it is good at all times to “sing praises, sing praises, sing praises to God Most High!” What he has done for us we cannot tell it all, but all we know is that he has done marvellous things for us. He deserves our continual praises on a daily basis because his blessings are new to us everyday.
Prayer: Holy Spirit urge me to sing the day and sing the night as I declare the glory of the Lord among the nations. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
