“Only Love Can Heal Old Animosities!”
Old feuds have destroyed love relationships between feuding families or nations. It was an old feud that caused the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Such a feud existed between the Samaritans and Jews from Galilee who still went to Jerusalem for religious festivals. It was a three day journey from Galilee to Jerusalem, passing through Samaria. But because of the antipathy Samaritan villages would often deny lodging to such wayfarers.
This happened to Jesus when he “resolutely set out for Jerusalem” to fulfil his mission. He sent some messengers ahead to a Samaritan village to get things ready for him, but the people did not welcome him.
His disciples James and John were enraged by the attitude of the Samaritan villagers, so they asked Jesus, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them? But Jesus turned and rebuked them…”(Lk.9:51-56).
My friend, the question which comes to mind is how do you use the power you have over those who wrong you or object your stance on issues? Are you the kind who would want to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?
It may have worked in the days of Elijah but not with Jesus! Jesus was resolute to go to Jerusalem where he will give his life in love so as to overcome evil! “An eye for an eye and half the world goes blind!” Love alone will heal the world. This is possible as is commonly said when the power of love overcomes the love of power.
You do not have to destroy those who oppose you. Just ignore them and set your eyes on your goals like Jesus did. Only love can heal the world!
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ rebuke me each time I think revenge is the best option, because vengeance is of the Lord. Amen!
