“Do What Pleases The Lord And He Will Always Be With You!”
I was sixteen years old. I had never seen somebody die. But as I sat by father’s bedside with mothers, he suddenly lifted his right hand, waved to us then the hand slumped. There was a loud hiss as he breathed his last. Even then I still did not know that he was dead. (It is not like these days when human corpses litter our streets and even four year kids are becoming over familiar with dead bodies)!
After the funeral and as the days went by I remembered how my father used to tell me that he will not always be there with me and for me. He used to tell me, “Look son, my sun is already setting never to rise again.” But what did I know then?
As I grew up and read the scriptures I could easily understand Jesus where the Jews did not. Jesus told them, “I am going away, and you will look for me, and you will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come.” The Jews wondered whether he wanted to commit suicide. In a way they were partially right. Jesus did everything to provoke his haters to want to eliminate him at all cost!
Among the many things Jesus told the Jews predicting his future I want us to dwell on these few: “…you would die in your sins if you do not believe that I am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins….He who sent me is reliable…The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him.”
The good news is that “Even as he spoke, many put their faith in him”(Jn.8:21-30). My friend, work out your salvation by believing in Jesus Christ and not die in your sins. His blood was shed on the cross just for that purpose!
We too have become sons and daughters of the Father. He is reliable and will walk with us all the days of our lives if we repent.
Prayer: Father do not leave me alone and let me always do what pleases you. Amen!
