“Always Do What Is Right Because The Seed Of God Is In You!”
Shylock the Jew was confident that the law favoured him to deserve a pound of Antonio’s flesh. Portia the judge entreated him: “…Though justice be thy plea, consider this, that in the course of justice none of us should see salvation: we do pray for mercy, and that same prayer doth teach us all to render the deeds of mercy…”(Merchant of Venice).
In effect Shakespeare was concurring the words of Romans that we have all sinned and are saved only through the grace of a merciful God.
Christ appeared and took away our sins. In him was no sin. When we continue to sin, then we do not live in him and we have neither seen nor known him. “He who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning.” Christ was born just to destroy the works of the devil. Once you are born of God the seed of God remains in you and you can’t go on sining (I Jn.3:4-10).
But as it stands the courts have Bibles so that Christians who have cases should swear by it before taking the stand. Ironically the Christians are more often than not the accused and not the other way round.
As a child of God as you begin the day pray that even when temptation come your way you should fight to overcome it. I flee away from the sins of commission and sometimes ignore the sins of ommission. Conscious of this my human frailties I always end my day with this evening prayer song: “If I have wounded any soul today, if I have caused one foot to go astray, if I have walked in my own sinful way, Dear Lord, forgive…Forgive the sins I have confessed to thee. Forgive the secret sins I do not see, O guide me, love me, and my keeper be, dear Lord, Amen”
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit help me to remain a child of God by doing what is right and by loving others. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
