“Written On Your Mind!”(Jer. 31:31-34).
The Bible is the rule of faith for us Christians. It is normal that we should constantly make reference to what is written in it. For our daily living, we remind ourselves of the biblical prescriptions.
Yet, there is a sense in which constant reading of the Bible is an indication of “spiritual immaturity.”
We tend to be more knowledgeable of other subjects than we are of our “rule of faith” reference book. Why do I say so? We read the books of other subjects, then we keep them aside. We rarely go back to those books; but we work according to the knowledge already gained in those subjects.
Indeed, true education is what remains when what was learned has been forgotten. Why do we keep reading the Scriptures if not because it is that we do not keep it? Christians; especially Christians of long standing should already know what should be and what should not be. What to do and what not to do; what pleases the LORD and what does not.
It is this lack of knowledge and immaturity that perishes us. For as Scriptures say, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…”(Hos. 4:6a). Indeed, lack of knowledge of God’s will for us leads to eternal damnation.
This ignorance stems from being glued to an old broken covenant. This is what God promises in the new covenant: “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbour, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
Therefore my friend, the more you read the Scriptures for daily spiritual uplifting, may God’s Spirit help you even more to know by rote what is written in your mind and on your heart.
Prayer: Holy Spirit help inscribe Christ in my mind and on my heart. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
