“Written On Our Hearts!”
Wisdom holds that true knowledge is what remains after what was learned has been forgotten. We go back to our school books for references only when we search our memories and can’t remember anything.
Open book examinations do not help us to have retentive memories. If we must refer from a book before having an answer, it means that we cannot also do what is in a book without opening it.
The name The Bible from the Latin “ta biblia” simply means The Books.” We read the Bible to know what it contains, so that we can make right choices for action. Imagine that on our daily walk and work we have to constantly open the Bible to find out what to do or not do! That would mean that there is nothing of the Bible’s content inside us.
Such a way of knowing God is the way of the old covenant. Such a covenant is easily broken because in is not in the memory. Faith holds a light to illuminate our future hope based on memory and “remembering.”
God assures us of the new covenant he is making with us: “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me from the least of them to the greatest. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more”(Jer.31:31-34).
God has made that new covenant through Jesus Christ and has indwelled us with the Holy Spirit who should enable us to know the Lord. And by knowing him, we should choose good over evil. Once we know Christ and allow the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s ways to us, the Bible and Bible teachers will become obsolete. God’s law will be in our minds and written on our hearts.
As long as we are not yet there, we are still being processed. Let us strive to remember more to be able to do what the Lord expects of us!
Prayer: Holy Spirit indwell me with God’s new covenant so that I obey his will in Christ Jesus. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
