“Why Do You Come To Meet With Jesus Christ?”
Two Gadarenes “demon possessed men… were so violent that no one could pass that way.” When they saw Jesus they shouted, “What do you want with us, Son of God? Have you come to torture us before the appointed time?…If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.”
So Jesus said to them, “Go!” The demons left and entered the pigs and the pigs drowned and died.
When we cast out a demon we must ensure that the Holy Spirit takes over its place. When we fail to do this, if the demon travels around and sees nowhere to rest, it returns back to its original home. It sees it empty and clean, so it goes and brings seven other demons to make the person worst than before (Mt.12:43-45).
However, our focus today is what followed after the incident of healing. Those tending the pigs went to town and reported all that had happened. “Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region” (Mt.8:28-34).
It is obvious that to drown a herd of pigs is an economic waste. This had to have a negative financial impact on the herd owner(s), caused unemployment to the shepherds. Following the law of demand and supply, it had to create scarcity leading to a rise in the price of pork in the area. Probably taking all of these into consideration, they rather pleaded with Jesus “to leave their region.”
One would have expected them to rejoice that these two men were healed. Apart from that, they could now pass freely through that way, which was not possible when the two were still demon possessed!
My friend, there is always an opportunity cost for every decision and action. For Jesus, the life of the two men were more precious than the wealth generated from pigs. We should always value human life more than wealth. Come to Jesus to receive new life; do not come to him to plead that he should leave your region because he is a threat to your wealth.
Jesus Christ is the authority above all others; the power above all other powers; including the most violent of demons! Submit to Jesus and whatever violent demoniac that was tormenting you or retarding your progress, Jesus is telling it now, “Go!”
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, we plead with you to cast out any demon subjugating and stagnating life for your children. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
