“Whoever Will Listen Let Him Listen…!”
Prophet Ezekiel saw the glory of the Lord and fell down. Then the Spirit came into him and raised him to his feet. The Spirit told him to go shut himself in the house where he was to be tied with ropes so that he could not go among the people.
Furtheremore the Spirit was to cause his tongue to stick to the roof of his mouth and make him unable to proclaim the word of God to a rebellious people.
The Spirit continued, “But when I speak to you, I will open your mouth and you shall say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says,’…”
God calls the messengers to send them as his mouthpiece among a rebellious people. He does not expect those messengers to be puffed up with their savoir-faire! His messengers should speak the word only when the Spirit speaks to them.
Jesus said, even when under arrest, the disciples should not worry about what or how to say it. “At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you”(Mt.10:16-20).
If there is one thing that God has given us which truly defines us, it is freewill. Freewill enables us to be or not to be; to do or not to do; to obey or not to obey; to listen or to refuse to listen!
With freewill we have freedom of choice. And this is what makes or mars us. Whatever choices we make we must be sure that choices have consequences.
The Spirit told Ezekiel that when he will speak God’s words to the people, “Whoever will listen let him listen, and whoever will refuse let him refuse, for they are a rebellious house “(Ez.3:22-27).
My friend, the goodnews of salvation is free, but it is your choice to accept or refuse it. God is able to force acceptance on us, but he allows us to make our choices.
Jesus himself left us with these words, “For God so loved the worlf that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”(Jn. 3:16).
Yes, salvation and eternal life in Christ is free, but to be saved is a matter of choice. Choose wisely because choices have consequences! The way of salvation is to choose to listen to what the Spirit says and obey the commands of the Saviour.
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit speak through me and let those who listen choose the way of obedience. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
