“We Will Do Everything The LORD Has Said!”(Ex.24:1-21).
God asked Moses to take Aaron, Nadab and Abihu and the seventy elders and come to him up the mountain to confirm the Covenant. Moses first “took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
“Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words.”
In later day Jesus will reenact this covenant saying, “This is my blood of the Covenant, which is poured out for many”(Mk.14:24).
On the Mount of Transfiguration the voice that came from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”(Mk.9:7). The exclamation point after the sentence “Listen to him” is an imperative. It calls for attentiveness and thereafter, obedience and action.
The usefulness of the covenant is in listening to the Son whom God loves and doing everything the LORD has said.
When Moses and the others went up the mountain, “God did not raise his hand against” those elders. “They saw God, and they ate and drank.”
When we long to be in God’s presence we must have the right spirit. To say that the elders saw God and God did not raise his hand against them is because they had been purified with the blood of sacrifice and they had pledged to do everything the LORD had said.
In the same way those who have been washed with the blood of the Lamb of God and who listen to him and obey him are worthy to be in the presence of the LORD with confidence. The LORD will not raise his hand against them.
When you listen, pay attention to the word of God and obey him there will be great joy being his presence.
