“Walk While You Have The Light…!”(Jn.12:34-41).
“We have heard from the Law that the Christ will live forever, so how can you say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up?’ Who is this ‘Son of Man?'”
This question came from the unbelieving crowd as a response to Jesus’ words that, “…when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself.”
Of course, as it was then, and as it is now, it is sensible not to believe in a God who can die. We noted in one of our reflections that religions build on the fact that humans are limited and that there is a spiritual universe with spiritual beings who are superior to humans and without whom humans are hapless.
One of the first heresies of early Christianity centred around the death of Jesus. If Jesus was the Christ how could he die? If Jesus is God become man, then the brief period of his death is to say that God died. But God is immortal.
According to the New Testament writers, this unbelief is also a fulfilment of Scriptures, “He has blinded their eyes and deadened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn – and I would heal them.’
That is the reason why the psalmist said it and the writer of the letter to the Hebrews echoes it repeatedly, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts…”(Ps.95:7; Heb.3:7&15). It is for your good!
Dear friend, in all these, let us for today take home this friendly piece of advice from Jesus the Christ: “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you.” This is because ” the man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going. Put your trust in the light while you have it, so that you may become sons of light.”
Yes, Jesus Christ is the light, walk in his light while you can, before dark clouds begin to gather for you.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, light of the world, shine on me until my traveling days are done. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
