“Turn, Turn From Your Evil Ways!”
My people say that until you are dead and buried, you never can tell how you would end. Yes, it is the end that matters. Some one time rich people died like paupers, meanwhile some who were nonentities died while swimming in wealth.
Life plays some tricks on us all. Some of the best brains in school were finally employed by those who were classified dullards, and the weaklings became politically powerful abd employed the bullies as their bodyguards! Truly, “this life noh balance at all!”
It is Machiavellian to consider that the end justifies the means whereas the principle is for the means to justify the end. But it is like whichever of the above can be right circumstantially. Pleading on behalf of Antonio in the Merchant of Venice, Bassanio appeals to the judge, “to do a great right, do a little wrong.” This is to say desperation forces people to opt for unorthodox approaches!
Whatever the case, and however we look at it, “it is the end that matters!” When we are weighed down by sin and wasting away, we may consider that life is not worth living anymore. Then the Lord comes in with this blessed assurance, “As surely as I live, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways…”
The Father has reached out to us through his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. By this he is assuring us that “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow…”(Is.1:18).
My friend, “The righteousness of the righteous man will not save him when he disobeys, and the wickedness of the wicked man will not cause him to fall when he turns from it.”
If you have been in the path of obedience keep on keeping on so that you do not miss out at the finishing point. On the other side, if sin has turned you away from God, then repent and ask for God’s forgiveness. God will not remember any of the sins against you. You have done what is just and right (Ez.33:10-16).
Sunday prayer: Lord, open my heart like you did to Lydia so that I may positively respond to your message. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
Babila Fochang.
