“Do It With Your Hands But In The Strength Of The LORD!”(I Sam.17:31-51).
“David said to Saul, ‘Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him. ‘”
“Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; This uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them because he has defied the armies of the living God. The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.”
“Saul said to David, ‘Go,and the LORD be with you.'”
“David said to the Philistine, ‘You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day, the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head…”
“All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands. “
“So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand, he struck down the Philistine and killed him.”
During the exodus, with Sea of Reeds in front of them and the army of Pharaoh going on them, the children of Israel were scared. Moses gave them hope, saying: ‘Do not be afraid. Stand firm, and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today… The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”(Ex.14:13-14).
In later days, the Lord Almighty told the prophet Zechariah to tell Zerubbabel: “Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.”(Zec.4:6).
In his own words, Christ says, “Apart from me, you can do nothing.”(Jn.15:5).
Whoever said a patient dog eats the fattest bone may have been right in his time. In our time, a patient dog can starve to death. A hunting dog is after the chase for its own benefit; the for its owner.
Patience, however, is not inaction. When Christ says, “Without me, you can do nothing,” it doesn’t mean we should fold our hands and do nothing.
David did not face Goliath with empty hands. In as much as God was the one who killed Goliath, it was a sling and a stone that actually struck Goliath down. God was able to strike Goliath with a thunderbolt, but he chose a boy whom he himself had empowered in the fields.
God wants us to partner with him to achieve the results that benefit us and others.
My friend, as you step out today, use your sling and stone to fling at your Goliath, but be confident that the force and direction of the stone is by the power of the LORD!
Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me daily not to depend on my own strength, but to rely on the LORD because if he does not build the house, my labour will be in vain. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
