“Your Will O Lord Not Mine, I will Obey…!”
I find deep theological meaning in this line by Mary McKee, “…nothing I planned has turned out right…” Indeed; if it is in God’s will and according to his plan, then our human plans can never turn out right the way we wanted. It is simple: humans may propose but God has the final decision.
God’s best by which he glorifies his name can never satisfy our imagined prospects.
It is a tough moment to decide to “let go!” It is a moment which bruises our egos and wounds our pride because by letting go, nothing we planned can go right.
When Jesus faced this incisive moment he voiced it out, “My heart is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name!”
The response was a voice from heaven acknowledging that what he requested was a fait accompli. Those who were present gave different interpretations to what they heard. We live in a world where people hear what they want to hear and not what was said. This is a main reason why the world goes topsy turvy at every twist and turn.
When we hear only what we want to hear, and when we do not allow God to have his way, we end up listening to the voice of a stranger claiming it is the Lord’s.
Our salvation has come through the pain and shame of Christ; a lesson to us that we should also be ready to feel pain so that others may find relief. Jesus accepted the pain and shame of the cross because as he said, “But I, whem I am lifted up from the earth will draw all men to myself”(Jn.12:27-33).
My friend, your heart may be troubled now because nothing you planned has turned out right. Leave it to the Lord for his name to be glorified. Do not listen to the voice of a stranger! Learn from Jesus Christ to be humble, obedient and submissive to the will of God and not man!
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ thank you for teaching me the lesson of humble and obedient submission to God’s will. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
