“There Is Nothing God Cannot Do!”(I Kgs 17:17-24).
In Africa when you pass by newspaper kiosks you find some people gathered around reading the headlines on the FrontPages. In as much as the FrontPage is intended to carry the most important or remarkable news, it is not appropriate to conclude a story from the headline.
FrontPage headlines are often intendded to draw attention, but the content and conclusions often do not correspond. Hence the saying, “Don’t read the headlines then go and tell stories.”
It is prudent to follow the advice of some skit producers that, “Wait till the end!” Some writers know how to keep you in suspense while raising your curiosity, such that you may be tempted to conclude falsely. It is only when you read to the end that you get the right conclusion.
Indeed, a sentence is complete only when we see a full stop, a question sign or an exclamation mark! No sentence is complete with a comma, semicolon or hyphen.
So it is with spiritual things. Whatever is experienced on earth is like a dim reflection in the mirror. Human life is a story of suspense, climax, anti-climax until we get to the end. Therefore, wait till the end before you conclude.
Even death is not the end. At the supposed death of her only son, the widow of Zarephath and Elijah considered that it was the end for the child. However, Elijah cried to the Lord, “O Lord my God, let this boy’s life return to him! The Lord heard Elijah’s cry, and the boy’s life returned to him, and he lived.”
Some people speculate that Elijah only resuscitated the boy. It is seemingly so, except that Elijah cried out to the Lord, “O Lord my God, have you brought tragedy also upon this widow I am staying with, by causing her son to die?”
Although not much is said about this story, this is however the first instance of raising the dead in Scripture. The widow was a non-Israelite, yet the first recorded story of God bringing back to life was to her son.
With God the story is not over until it is actually over! There is nothing God cannot do for you; you just have to wait till the end. With God dry bones can live again!
In Jesus Christ the resurrection hope has been validated, sealed and delivered to us. So long as we have confidence in this resurrection hope, we know everything is gonna be fine!
Prayer of the week: Holy Spirit help me to put absolute trust in the Lord and wait upon him till the end. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
