“The Righteous Will Live By Faith!”
Today I am reminded of an old song of missionary times, “Bi ni nteti, Yesu teti wò e?” – You are selecting (discriminating), whom has Jesus discriminated against? The gospel message is universal, but it is not universalism.
The gospel is not a message to be intelligently deciphered so that it is limited only to the wise. It is simple and plain to be understood by the foolish too.
We do not have to be “ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes…” The gospel is that Jesus Christ the Son of God paid in full the debt of all humanity. There is therefore no other name on earth or in heaven by which humanity can be saved.
The gospel reveals a righteousness from God and made available to us by his grace through the sacrificial death of his Son. We can attain this righteousness through faith alone. We cannot pay for it and it can’t be our effort to attsin it. This is the foundation of Evangelical preaching that “The righteous will live by faith” (Cf. Hab.2:4).
As Christians we must not discriminate. God is not a Christian and so his gospel must be preached to everybody irrespective of creed, colour, race, status or academic level.
We should not be ashamed of the gospel. God may not be a Christian but the gospel is his power for the salvation “of everyone who believes”(Rom.1:14-17). Everyone has the privilege of hearing the gospel but only those who believe are saved.
Through the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed and is available to us by faith. We walk by faith and not by sight. We are saved through faith and in response we do the works of righteousness as we seek the Holy Spirit to lead us from faith to faith.
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit inspire me not to be ashamed of the gospel, but rather to preach it with zeal so that all who believe may be saved. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
