“The LORD Is A Lamp To Your Feet…!”(Ex. 13:20-22).
*”Dzid bi Nyikob” and *Nyikob loh u ntsehni ” (“Travel with God” and “Let God take you and escort you”) are powerful though brief prayers for someone who is traveling or about to travel.*
These prayers which predates the missionary enterprise tells us that the Nyonga people knew that a traveller never journeys alone.
Besides, Africans are prayerful beings who do not keep fixed prayer times. They pray at all times and at any place. So to say, they know that God is always present.
We may raise the question, “How can one know that God is present or accompanying someone?” Theologians will tell you of theophany, which is a visible manifestation to humankind of God.”
One such theophany was the manner in which God accompanied his exodus children as a lamp to their feet so that they could travel day and night. We are told that “During the day the LORD went in front of them in a pillar of cloud to show them the way, and during the night he went in front of them in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel night and day. The pillar of cloud was always in front of the people during the day, and the pillar of fire at night.”
Even for you and I, there is no situation or circumstance that God leaves us alone. He does not ask us to go where he will not accompany us. He is always a lamp to our feet and a light on our path. He is Joshua, the God who saves and he is Emmanuel, the God who is with us. Hallelujah!
*My friend, God has revealed himself to us in Jesus Christ whom we follow by faith and not by sight. We can face any exodus without any theophany, but we know by faith that he is our journey partner. He is always a lamp to our feet and a light on our path in pitch darkness and during the dark moments of our lives. Believe this, trust him and let faith lead you on your wsy, even if like Moses and the Israelites you do not know the exact location of the promised land. Just know that with God leading the way, you will get there someday.
Prayer of the week: Lord Jesus Christ thank you for being a lamp to my feet and a light on my path. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working day and week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
