The Impartial God!”(Rom.9:1-15).
“What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! For he says to Moses, ‘I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.'”
We rely solely on God’s mercy and compassion. It wasn’t because Isaac was righteous that God favoured him over Ismael. It was not because of works of righteousness that God favoured Jacob over Esau. By our human judgment Jacob was a bad brother and did not deserve God’s favour, but God chose him while they were still in their mother’s womb.
“It does not, therefore, depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy”(Rom.8:16).
Israel possessed everything: They were sons of God by adoption, possessors of divine glory, the various covenants that God made with their ancestors, they were privileged to receive the law and to have temple worship and inheritors of all the promises. Above all, “from them is traced the human ancestry of Christ, who is God over all, forever praised…”
Even so, they did not all recognize and accept the Christ whom they have been waiting for.
God’s present choice is the new Israel constituted by those who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and are accepted by God; not because of their righteousness, but because of God’s mercy and compassion on those who believe.
Whoever turns to the LORD through Christ is the LORD’S choice.
My friend, do not envy others in their earthly glories which you may consider to be blessings. God is Sovereign and is free to make a Sovereign choice. One thing we should know for sure is that God is not unjust in his choices at all! Look up to Christ at the throne of mercy, and plead: “Pass me not O gentle Saviour…”
Weekend prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you. By faith I receive your mercy and compassion in Jesus’ name. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
Prayer point: Pray that God should have mercy and transform hearts of hatred into hearts of love!
