“The Father In The Son!”(Jn.14:7-14).
At the ordination of pastors in some Protestant settings, the candidates are, at one point, asked to recite the Nicene Creed. The Nicene Creed was formulated at the Council of Nicea(325 AD) to counter Arianism.
In the 4th century, Arius proposed a theological doctrine stating that Jesus Christ is a created being not of the same substance with the Father. Arius’ doctrine came to be called Arianism. This was condemned at the Council of Nicea as heresy; hence, the Nicene Creed intending to emphasise that God the Son is co-equal and co-eternal with God the Father
A key term to emphasise this is the Greek theological term “Homoousios,” meaning “of the same substance” or “of one being.”
We remind you of these as a caveat against modern-day Arianism that is being propagated by some of the groups/gatherings we consider to be Christian.
Run away from any teaching that denies that God the Son and God the Father are co-equal, co-eternal, and consubstantial.
Today’s pericope is considered one of the primary biblical foundations for homoousios. In the words of Jesus, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” “I am in the Father, and the Father is in me.” The proof of the Father in the Son is the evidence of the works of the Son.
True believe in Jesus is not just that he is the Son of God and the Messiah. True believe in him is in believing through the evidence of his works.
If you do not believe in the evidence as seen in his works, then belief in his words is skin deep faith.
As the Lord Jesus Christ prepares us for his ascension, he assures: If you believe in me, you “will do the works I have been doing and will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”
My friend, have you asked anything in Jesus’ name, and he has not done it? Are you sure he did not respond? Remember his responses: “No!” or “Yes,” or “I’ll revert to you later!”
Also, remember: Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened. Ask and it will be given! Otherwise, try again!
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for the blessed assurance of working in me and through me. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
