“The Day Death Will Be Destroyed!”(I Cor.15:20-28).
“But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For he ‘has put everything under his feet.’ Now when it says that ‘everything’ has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all.”
When Jesus said on the cross that “it is finished,” we take it that he meant “mission accomplished.” When he was raised from the dead this was victory over death.
However, his victory over death is partial. He rose as first fruits, but our turn will take place during his second coming when death, the last enemy will be destroyed.
From the resurrection Christ reigns Supreme, saddled with the task of destroying all dominion, authority and power; and then death.
Dominion is the territorial limits. Authority is the right to use power, and power is “to have the inherent strength or actual ability to bring about a desired purpose.”
Rulership is a combination of dominion, authority and power. The conquest of Christ over these enemies is not limited within the temporal realm; it is more in the spiritual realm.
The risen Lord will destroy these enemies because his Father “has put everything under his feet” – excluding the Father.
When Christ is done he will hand over the kingdom back to the Father “so that God may be all in all” – referring to the Godhead.
While we are still waiting for the day of his coming, we should set our hearts on things above where he is seated. We should set our minds on things above, and not on earthly things. We should put to death all the earthly passions, pleasures, entanglements and the inner inclinations that seduces us away from God.
Easter Monday prayer: Lord have mercy upon us and incline our hearts towards obedience and submission to your will. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you! Happy Easter!
