“Thank You Lord…!”(I Chron..17:3-4a&11-20&22-27).
The Christian faith is cross-generational. The promise made to Abraham was not fulfilled in his time. Each of his descendants made contributions in their own time until Christ came.
All were commended for their faith, yet none of them received what God had promised. “God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.” If that is so, then we cannot be made perfect until the next generation comes in.(Heb.11:39-40).
If God’s promises to us is cross-generational, then the goals we set for God’s work should be cross-generational as well. David woud have loved to build a befitting temple to house the ark of the covenant, but God had decided on the contrary. David’s offspring, Solomon was to be the one to build the house of the Lord.
David accepted the Lord’s decision with a prayer of thanksgiving. He thanked God for having found favour with his family and he also petitioned God to do as he has promised.
General lesson: In God’s work do what you have to do and leave the rest to the next. Thank God always for promises made and fulfilled.
There is a spiritual sense in which we are all reflected in Solomon and we all have a duty to build our bodies which are temples of Christ’s dwelling. Christmas reminds us that Christ is outside the door. He says,“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me”(Rev.3:20).
Open now your heart and let the Saviour ‘live’ in it…”
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your promise and its fulfilment in Jesus Christ. Praise be your holy Name. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you! Merry Christmas!
