“Take To Heart The Words Of God – They Are Your Life!”
In my village when a father dies, the relatives enquire from close family members whether he said anything before dieing. It is called, “Ma tù ndab” – literally it is to advise about succession, but there is more to it which includes “what to do, how to do it, who to do it, etc.”
In modern times we would say it is an oral will or last testament. These last words of a father before death are supposed to be respected to the utmost for the welfare of the family. The words are life for the family. Whoever tries to argue against it is reminded that you do not challenge the words of the dead!
Before he transited this world Moses recited the words of a kind of covenant reminder in song in the hearing of all the people.
When he finished reciting the song he told them, “Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you – they are your life. By them you will live long in the land…”(Dt.32:44-47).
The word of God is not idle talk for us. The word of God is life for us and to our generations to come. We must live it, inculcate it in our offspring so that it can go on from generation to generation.
My friend, make the Bible your boon companion for it contains the Word of life for you and your generations after you. John tells us, “In the beginning was the Word…In him was life, and that life was the light of men”(Jn.1:1-4).
Jesus reminds us that people will account for every idle word they utter(Mtt.12:36), but you and I are reminded that the word of God which reveals the Word “are not just idle word for you – they are your life” which assures longevity to those who adhere to it.
Therefore, make assurance to your faith doubly sure by studying and adhering to the words of the Bible so that Jesus Christ the Word of life will fix a place for you in his kingdom.
Prayer of the week: Word Of God let me take you to heart for you are my life. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week. May the word of God be your guide and guard all through this day and week.
Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
