“Take Care Of Your Spiritual Leader!”
The very Rev Dr Nyansako-ni-Nku told us that when a pastor feeds the people spiritually, the money just flows. In that case you do not have to ask for anything.
However, giving some of the money to the pastor in appreciating his work and as a motivation for more work becomes a problem. Paul had such kind of experience with some of the Corinthian Christians who sat in judgment on him. He raised a series of questions to show that he deserved the privileges of a minister just like the others were enjoying. Soldiers don’t serve at their own expense and the one who plants a vineyard eats of its grapes. He who tends a flock drinks of its milk.
We started this online preaching since 2014. Some have been glued to it since then until Facebook has qualified some as “top fans.” We all know that a ministry as this to be regular needs airtime and phone change from time to time. But if I may ask, how many of you consider giving some airtime token, no matter how small? To parody Paul, “if we have sown spiritual seed among you, is it too much if we reap a material harvest from you? If others have this right of support from you, shouldn’t we have it all the more? But we did not use any of this right. On the contrary, we put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel of Christ.”
This is not merely from a human point of view. It is a divine injunction, “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain” referring to ministers of the gospel(I Cor.9:1-12).
My friend, learn to give to your preacher in appreciation for his work and that would not mean you are buying the gospel. It is called appreciation for work done and a motivator for more work.
May I take this opportunity to thank AN who is in the US for having given me a Samsung galaxy tablet. I am particularly grateful for the elites of Bali Nyonga both at home and abroad who in 2015 during our homecoming bought us a car to facilitate our work as Synod Clerk. The car which we exhanged for another one is still useful to us even now in the parish. We are also thankful for the few who have occasionally provided us with airtime. Above all, we cherish the blessings you give us everyday. May God continue to replenish you bountifully.
To the rest of us, it is good to care for your minister. When the ministers sow spiritual seeds among you, it is not too much if they reap a material harvest. God gave us his best; Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
Weekend prayer: Lord Jesus Christ help me to put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
