“Study The Word Of God To Remain In The ‘Word’ – Jesus Christ!”
An East African lady who was always moving with her Bible was asked why she was always moving with her Bible? She replied, “I’m always moving with my Bible because it is the only book I read which also reads me.”
A video is now trending on social media. It depicts soldiers at the sight of a house burnt down to ashes. One of the soldiers is holding a Bible which passed through the fire and is still intact.
The power of the Bible is in its content. The Bible is the word of God through which we find the Word that saves us. The only way to remain in the word is to be steeped in the word and be constantly with the word seeking the Holy Spirit for guidance in wisdom, knowledge and understanding so as understand God’s word through the idioms of one’s context and socio-politico-cultural platform.
Monotony runs the danger of accomodation, thus taking things for granted until wrong is no longer seen as wrong. The common song becomes, “Jesus died and took our sins away, so we are saved.” By this we become comfortable in sin and by its true name it is called, “..crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace…” (Heb.6:4-8).
Truth be told, Cameroonian Christians we are all backsliders! The looting and burning down of houses, and the massacre of innocent people; worst of all including children by whosoever in the midst of Christian silence is tantamount to crucifying the Son of man daily!
Even when we have sensitized the outside world about the atrocities and attract humanitarian assistance, we have not done justice with such foreign aids! We wear the cloak of peace, we preach peace but we carefully dodge from discussing the weigthy concern of justice and truth which are the necessary conditions for ensuring peace. We forget too soon that “peace without justice is like a crumbling city wall!”
The evidences are glaring to show that those of us who have once been enlightened, who shared in the heavenly gift, who shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the common age have fallen away through warped up consciences!
Our God is however a “God of another chance.” We may now be a land of thorns and thistles, exposed to being cursed by God – that is if we are not cursed already – God nevertheless is giving us another opportunity to speak out and combat this evil in all its facets. Let us combat both collective and individual sins so that God’s face may shine upon us again and save us from destruction!
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit continue to nudge me so that I stay awake in the word to know Christ more and more through concrete action. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! !
