“Spirit Of God, Transform And Renew Us!”(Rom.8:1-11).
The Holy Spirit renews and transforms us into new creations from the same old selves. Transformation and renewal is “filling the old with new content.”
Today is Pentecost Sunday on which we celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the followers of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Jewish feast of Pentecost was a thanksgiving for the furstfruits of the wheat harvest. Later on it was associated with a remembrance of the Law given by God to Moses on Mount Sinai.
God transformed and renewed this day and filled it with new content, when on this day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles and other believers like tongues of fire(Acts 2:1-4).
Christian Pentecost is celebrated on the 50th day from Easter Sunday. This celebration should be for us an indication of the indwelling of God’s Spirit, even as he promised in olden times, “I will remove from you your heart of stone…I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws”(Ez.36:26-27).
In consonance to this, the Lord Jesus Christ promised that when he goes he will send the Counselor to us(Jn.16:7), and this he did on Pentecost day.
He is the Spirit of truth who enables us to know that “Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God”(Mt.16:16).
More than this, when controlled by the Spirit, we would submit to God and do what pleases God. We would no longer be led by the sinful nature which is hostile to God.
Dear friend, as we celebrate this year’s Pentecost, may we strive to live in accordance with the Spirit so that we can have our minds set on what the Spirit desires.
Pentecost prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, live in me through the Spirit so that my spirit should be alive because of righteousness. Amen!
